Postcode Millions
Fun For Everybody In Kirkcaldy
A whopping 753 winners in Kirkcaldy shared a massive £3 Million prize pot at the April Postcode Millions this weekend.
There were four lucky players with the full winning postcode, KY2 6NT. One lucky winner, who plays with two tickets, scooped a tremendous £491,040. Another three players each won £245,520.
Elizabeth Smith, who was joined by her husband Andy, was gobsmacked to be presented with the day's biggest prize – £491,040. "It feels great," she said. "You always dream of winning but never expect it to actually happen."
Elizabeth, a retired factory worker, is a mum of three and a grandmother of 13. She has a few ideas on how to spend the money. "My sons are my priority," she said. "My 16-year-old granddaughter Rebecca wants to be a scientist, so I will be paying for her university fees. I also would like to take a trip to Toronto in Canada."
Father-of-four and grandfather-of-two George Wight was equally shocked to win a massive £245,520. "I just can't believe how much I've won," said George, "I would have been happy with £500, but this is just amazing."
George already has big plans – he is looking to jet off to Australia to see family. "My son and my sister are both in Australia; Jessie's in Perth and Charlie is in Melbourne, so I'll do a wee tour of the country whilst I'm there!"
It's not just George jetting off to Australia – his neighbour Lorraine Reilly is also planning on spending some of her £245,520 on a trip down under. "I'm going to see my boy," she said. "My son Jamie lives in Perth, and I've not been out since 2011. I'll be flying business class all the way!"
Child-minder Lorraine was joined by her daughter Amanda Jane at today's celebration. "Amanda Jane can come to Australia, and I'll be treating her to a sun house for her new garden."
Kathryn Honeyman, an admin clerk at Scottish Widows, is going to use some of the money for a holiday to the USA. "We love going to America on holiday, so I would really like to book another trip over there and visit some of the places we've yet to see," she said.
Kathryn's husband Colin has plans of his own with the winnings. "I'd definitely like to buy some new golf clubs and maybe some lessons too!"
Other winners in the sector shared the remaining prize pot – all players winning at least £2,094.
One special winner was the oldest surviving veteran of the Royal Horse Artillery, 104-year-old Jimmy Sinclair. Jimmy wrote a poem for the team at People's Postcode Lottery when he found out he was a winner. The poem reads, "I've got lots o' friendly neighbours, I'm sure you'll all agree, we will all have a friendly chat at the Postcode Lottery!"
All winners were invited to attend a celebration at Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy for a cheque presentation and special performance by The Voice 2016 winner Kevin Simm. "I was delighted to be invited to perform at the Kirkcaldy Postcode Millions event today," he said. "It was great to see so many happy winners and learn about all the charities supported by playing. I'll have to sign up myself now!"
People's Postcode Lottery Ambassadors Judie McCourt and Matt Johnson hosted the event. Judie said, "What a fantastic day we've had in Kirkcaldy! We've met a huge number of lucky winners and what a treat to hear the fabulous Kevin Simm perform."
