Street Prize
Happiness For Shoeburyness
Four neighbours in Shoeburyness are celebrating this weekend after their postcode, SS3 9SJ, won our Sunday Street Prize. Three of the residents landed £30,000 each, while the fourth doubled their prize to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
An Early Christmas
Lucky Sandie, who works in administration for a metal company, was at work when she found out she'd won during a video call with Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson. When she saw her cheque, Sandie got tearful and said, "Oh my God, oh wow. This means so, so much. I was going to be pleased with a grand but I'm ecstatic now - it's like all my Christmases have come at once.
"I've got to go back to work - I'll need to have a cup of tea and try to come to terms with what's happened. I'm not going to be able to do much typing after this!"
The win is even more extraordinary for Sandie who won with her old postcode. She said, "Just over three years ago I moved and decided to keep my old postcode on. I'm so glad I did.
"Look what you've done to me, you've made me so happy I could cry!"
Sandie, who has nine grandchildren and three children, is planning to treat them to an extra-special Christmas with her partner Chris. She said, "Not being allowed to see anyone just now has really affected me with my children and grandchildren. Now I can get them something without having to think 'oh, have I got enough money to get that?' and it'll give us a little nest egg for a rainy day too."
One of the reasons Sandie signed up to play was to support good causes. She said, "I just love the fact that it's helping charities. I've got two chihuahuas and they even come to bed with me, so it's good to know it's helping charities close to our hearts like Dogs Trust."
Matt Johnson congratulated Sandie and the other Shoeburyness winners on their good fortune. He said, "It was my absolute pleasure to meet Sandie and surprise her with a lovely big cheque - it's one of the best things about my job.
"I hope she has a wonderful Christmas and I'm sure the other lucky players in Shoeburyness will be just as delighted with their prize."
