Dogs Trust
Dogs Trust is dedicated to creating a happy and healthy environment for dogs as they wait to find their 'furever' homes
Dogs Trust is the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Every year, the charity changes the lives of thousands of dogs through its community projects and by matching dogs of all shapes, breeds, and ages with new owners. Their 19 rehoming centres care for approximately 15,000 dogs per year that have been abandoned, given up by their owners, or found as strays.
Players of People's Postcode Lottery are making a huge difference to the charity's work. One example of the way player funding is used is in the creation of new jobs. Dedicated staff are employed to create a happy and healthy environment for dogs as they wait to find their 'furever' homes.
A staff member whose role has been funded by players is Vet Nurse Assistant Gemma, who is based at Dogs Trust Evesham. Her role involves supporting the vet team with the veterinary care of the dogs, as well as ensuring that all of the dogs in the vet suite are comfortable before and after treatment.
The charity:
- cares for and rehomes dogs,
- extends support to dog owners in desperate situations,
- helps to train the nation's dog owners, and
- researches evidence-based solutions to the problems of unethical breeding and selling of dogs.
Dogs Trust's aim has remained the same for the last 125 years - to ensure dogs are free from the threat of destruction and unnecessary harm. This work is only possible due to the kind-heartedness and generosity of those who have donated to its cause, particularly players of People's Postcode Lottery.
But there is still more to do, and you can help Dogs Trust improve the lives of dogs and give them the loving homes they deserve. For more information, visit their website.
