Street Prize
Wonderful Win For Wallington
Nine neighbours in Wallington are celebrating this weekend as their postcode, SM6 9DL, has won our Sunday Street Prize. Eight of the residents landed £30,000 each, while the ninth doubled their prize to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
Absolutely Speechless
One of our lucky winners was Toni, who received a call from our team to tell her about her £30,000 prize. She said, "All my friends know I like to chat, and I was absolutely speechless. I've never had a phone call like it in my life."
Toni worked in a bank for over 42 years before retiring in 2015. The generous-hearted lottery winner is far more used to fundraising money for charitable causes than winning money. On the same day she scooped £30,000, Toni is running 5km to fundraise for Cancer Research UK. She said, "I'm doing Race for Life today - I've raised about £110 so far. I like donating to things and doing things like this to help charities. There was a Race for Life event last Sunday, but I couldn't take part as I was giving blood."
With a modest laugh Toni added, "I'm a good person, I've reached the 100 blood donations milestone, I try my best to donate blood as often as possible."
The retiree plans to give some of her windfall to her godchildren. She said, "I have four godchildren so I'd pass some money on to them, each of them has families of their own, so they can do what they want with it, for their kids."
Dream Holidays
Toni has enjoyed travelling with her friends in her retirement and hopes to take a holiday to some of the places she has dreamt of visiting. She said, "I'd love to go to New Zealand - I love Lord of the Rings and I'd love to see where it was filmed. I've also never been to Northern Ireland, and after watching a few series of Game of Thrones the scenery looks fantastic."
The first thing on Toni's wish list, though, is a new sofa. She said, "I do need a new three-piece suite for my lounge because my sofa has broken."
Toni was delighted that eight of her neighbours had also won. She said, "It's only a small cul-de-sac that we live on and I was wondering who else played the Postcode Lottery. I'm absolutely chuffed for them."
Toni doesn't have any big plans for celebrating her win and hopes to carry on enjoying her normal routine. She said, "I've not really got anything in mind. I'm going to the bingo and I'm in a darts league which I go to every Thursday."
Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson said, "Congratulations to all nine of our winners in Wallington. I hope they treat themselves with the prize money and I'm sure they'll all be celebrating today and into next week."
