Super Surprise For Scarborough
It's a fantastic day for eight Scarborough residents as they've each scooped a super £30,000 cheque! The windfall arrived after their postcode, YO11 2XD, was revealed as the winner of Tuesday's #30KADAY Street Prize.
Every day throughout our May draws we'll announce one postcode as a £30,000 Street Prize winner. All the players in that postcode will win a £30,000 cheque for every ticket they hold.
Travel Adventure
Jayne found out how much she'd won on a video call with Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson. Jayne was joined by her husband and the couple cheered in delight when they saw their £30,000 cheque. Jayne exclaimed, "Woo, wow! Antarctica here we come!"
Jayne worked as a nurse but has recently retired and is now looking to enjoy an adventure-filled retirement. She said, "We're keen to have adventure when we travel and we like it hot and we also like cold, very cold." Peter added, "Antarctica is something we've thinking about for a while but being very expensive, we didn't know if we could afford it right now, but now we can!"
Peter is a retired police officer who hopes to use some of the winnings to tick off one special trip from his bucket list. He said, "I want to do the trek to Mount Everest base camp." Jayne laughed and added, "And I'll just have a boozy cruise with my friend."
The mum-of-two started playing after her cousin in Sheffield won a big cheque in 2019 playing People's Postcode Lottery. Jayne said, "My cousin won a £30,000 prize and that made us think we never have a go on any lotteries, and we wanted to help Charities too."
Staycation Plans
Lucky Lisa also pocketed £30,000 and was with her husband Hish when Danyl revealed her prize. Lisa gasped and said, "Oh, oh my God, I can't believe that! Oh my God, that is amazing, absolutely amazing. You've made our year." The couple laughed and hugged before Hish added, "It's hard to compute, that's a life-changing amount of money. Wow! My face is hurting from smiling."
The couple plan to treat their family to a staycation this summer to celebrate all the events they've missed from being apart. Lisa said, "We haven't really seen much of our family this year and we've all missed milestone celebrations and birthdays so we said it would be nice to all get together and have a little staycation."
Lisa recently celebrated her 40th birthday and they also plan to take a trip to the Yorkshire Dales accompanied by their beloved pets to celebrate the win. Hish said, "We'll take our three dogs away - we're massive dog lovers and we take them wherever we go." Lisa laughed and said, "We'll treat them to a little doggy holiday."
The couple were thrilled to hear that seven other people on their street had each netted a £30,000 cheque. Lisa said, "We know loads of our neighbours and they are so lovely. It's going to lift everyone's spirits and it'll be great to speak to other neighbours who've won."
Retirement Boost
Neighbour Terry was another overjoyed Street Prize winner. On seeing his cheque, Terry exclaimed, "Oh wow! Oh that's fantastic! I can't believe it. I was obviously hoping for that, but didn't believe it was going to happen, that is amazing."
The grandad-of-four is a local joiner and the win means that he'll be able to retire earlier. He said, "I've just semi-retired and this will help me boost my retirement. It'll mean I don't have to work so hard to keep money ticking over."
Terry's first thoughts turned to his family and he wants to treat his grandchildren with the winnings. He added, "We want to look after the grandkids - I've got two older granddaughters, Emily and Lucy and two younger grandchildren, Joshua and Freya."
He and his wife Linda intend to save some of the money for the future. He said, "It's going to be life-changing for us, I know it's not millions and things like that but an amount like that would take me so long to earn."
Danyl Johnson said, "What an amazing surprise for our winning players from Scarborough. It sounds like they have some lovely plans from treating family and doggy holidays to trips to Antarctica and the top of the world! I couldn't be happier for them and I hope they enjoy spending their winnings."
