Postcode Millions
Big Bucks For Uxbridge
Neighbours in Uxbridge forgot about the freezing temperatures outside as they shared a £3 Million prize thanks to their postcode sector of UB8 2. The sector was drawn in the first Postcode Millions of 2019 and saw over 300 winners take home cheques. The players celebrated alongside the furry residents of Dogs Trust, Harefield, who thanked the players for supporting the charity with funding of £9 Million to date.
There were three winners playing in the full winning postcode of UB8 2YH who picked up the biggest prizes of the day. One lucky winner picked up two cheques totalling an amazing £675,594 as they play with two tickets, while a further two players scooped £337,797 each. The remaining 316 residents received cheques ranging from £4,407 to £26,442, which were handed out by People's Postcode Lottery Presenters Judie McCourt and Matt Johnson.
Ian, a retired RAF Serviceman, was stunned when it was revealed he had scooped the top prize. He said, "I was shocked, and really choked up when I saw it. I'm retired and when you are on a pension you live month to month budgeting what you have. I don't need to budget now. I'm going to pay for a holiday for myself and my friend, and maybe buy a new car. I started playing three years ago, mainly to help charity. I would say if you want to do something good for others, sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery."
Ian is also a volunteer at Dogs Trust in Harefield as a puppy walker, "Part of my training with the RAF was puppy training so it is wonderful to be able to help out."
Jacqui works in care home and was celebrating with a cheque for £8,814. She said, "I was so shocked. I have two young grandchildren and another on the way, so I think I will be treating them all with a holiday to Spain."
Nikki was another lucky winner who picked up a cheque for £4,407. Nikki works in education for the NHS and will be sharing her prize with her partner Tony and her sons Aaron and Cameron. She said, "I'm really excited and thrilled because I would have been happy with £1,000. I have had three dogs myself from Dogs Trust so it is great to be here to celebrate."
Players were treated to a visit from Love Island star Eyal Booker, who joined the celebration to talk about the great work of Dogs Trust in rehoming and rehabilitation. On the stage at the event he said, "Dogs Trust never puts a healthy dog down, that is why funding from People's Postcode Lottery is so important so they can keep up the great work."
Dogs Trust West London Rehoming Centre Manager Richard Moore said, "We're incredibly grateful to players of People's Postcode Lottery for the funds we've received. Thanks to this boost, we've been able to invest in more specialist staff to provide the best possible care for our dogs whilst they await new homes. We're looking forward to welcoming the winners to our rehoming centre where they'll be met with wagging tails and wet noses and get to see first hand how we go the extra miles for dogs."
Boris Johnson, MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, said, "I was delighted to hear about hundreds of my constituents sharing this People's Postcode Lottery prize pot. It's a fantastic boost for the community and for local businesses who will benefit from the increased spending power. People's Postcode Lottery has also funded several good causes in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, from Dogs Trust to the Centre for ADHD & Autism Support, from the WFC Foundation Trust to the Fighting Chance Project. Local charities are winning, which is the whole point!"
Judie McCourt was one of the People's Postcode Lottery Presenters unveiling winners cheques at the event. She said, "It has been wonderful in Uxbridge today. Not only have we handed out some incredible cheques to our lucky winners, we also got to celebrate with Dogs Trust, one of our regular charities, and some of the fluffy residents. I've been thinking about rehoming a dog for a while and it is so hard not to adopt a dog on the spot today."
62% of postcodes in Great Britain are now registered to play, with prizes being announced on a daily basis. With 32% of the ticket price going to charities, players have raised over £382 Million for more than 5,500 good causes to date. This prize was part of a draw promoted by Postcode Planet Trust.
