Good Time For Newcastle-under-Lyme
A lucky resident in Newcastle-under-Lyme is having a fantastic Sunday, after her postcode, ST5 0RE, was announced as a £30,000 winner with People's Postcode Lottery.
Anne and her husband Raymond were gobsmacked when they found out how much she had won. Anne said, "It's amazing! It's much more than we were expecting so it's a huge surprise. We're the only ones on our street who play, but we've already had one neighbour from across the road congratulate us – I bet they'll sign up to play now!"
Amazing Antigua
Anne and Raymond are both retired, but with six children and 13 grandchildren between them they've been kept busy over the years. Anne said, "It will be lovely to relax and treat ourselves with our winnings. We spent a day in Antigua on a cruise some time ago and have always wanted to go back. We can definitely afford to book a trip back now! We can decide what to do with the rest of the money whilst we're soaking up the sun. Raymond broke his foot recently and he's still recovering – this will cheer him up nicely!"
Whilst she loved the idea of winning, it was the charities that encouraged Anne to sign up to play, "For as long as I can remember I've given money to charity, so I love that by playing I'm giving to so many good causes, both locally and internationally. It was a big factor for me when I signed up – but of course winning is excellent too!"
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Matt Johnson handed Anne her cheque. He said, "I'm over the moon for Anne and Raymond! I hope they treat themselves with their prize money and enjoy celebrating. It's lovely to hear that they'll finally be able to go back to Antigua – I have no doubt they'll have a great time in the sun!"
Charities Big and Small
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £404 Million for thousands of projects and groups across the world. This draw was promoted on behalf of Crisis which has received over £1 Million in funding to date.
Savana is one of many charities close to the winner that has also received support from players. Last year the group was awarded £10,808 to provide emotional and practical support to young people who have been affected by sexual violence or exploitation.
