Street Prize
New Wealth For Newark
Four Newark neighbours are celebrating this week after winning big with their postcode, NG24 4EZ.
Karen Town scooped the biggest prize of £60,000 as she plays with two tickets. "I'm still in shock," she said. "It's not sunk in."
Mum-of-three Karen already has an idea of how to spend her winnings. "I definitely want to go on a big family trip to California next year," she said. "It's something I've wanted to do for a while and now we can make it really special. It'll be me, my kids, and my parents. I can't wait."
Karen, who works as an administrator, signed up to play People's Postcode Lottery to support charities. "I watched Britain's Got Talent last weekend and saw The Missing People Choir perform – I was in tears knowing that my money goes towards such an amazing cause."
Karen's neighbour Paul Serplus was delighted to be handed his £30,000 cheque and knows exactly what he's going to do with it. "I proposed to my girlfriend Joyce a while ago but she said I couldn't do it without a ring, so that's the first thing on the list," he said. "We'll start looking at the weekend."
As well as making his girlfriend very happy, maintenance technician Paul has a few other ideas for the money. "As well as the ring, we want to do some home improvements and maybe upgrade the car," he said.
Father and son duo Denis and Gary Dawson are also celebrating after scooping £30,000 each. Gary was at work when the team arrived to present them with their cheques but dad Denis was happy to accept both cheques. "We're very shocked - and we're not easily shocked," he said. "I have two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to treat with the money, and I think we'll put the rest in the bank." Denis's wife Barbara was thrilled her husband and son won together. "I think Denis and I will take a trip to Yarmouth as a treat," she said.
Street Prize Presenter Matt Johnson said. "I've really enjoyed meeting the residents of Staunton Road and letting them know how much they'd won. There are some really exciting things to be done with the winning cheques today, and I wish all our winners the very best."
To date, players have raised more than £190 Million for more than 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
Local charities also benefit from the support of our players. The Untapped Resource, based near Newark, received £1,990. The programme is a social enterprise focused on providing a recycling facility for local businesses.
There were also happy players in Exeter, as EX1 3HE was drawn as the winner of the Saturday Street Prize.
