Street Prize
Stroke Of Luck In Symington
It's a spectacular Saturday for one lucky player who has scooped a whopping £30,000 cheque. The windfall came for the Merrick Place resident after her postcode, KA1 5RT, was drawn as a winner of today's Street Prize.
A Tidy Profit
Margaret, a grandmother-of-eight who works for an accounting firm in the nearby town of Darvel, was lost for words when she pulled her cheque out of its envelope. She said, "Oh wow! I'm speechless and that never happens!
"There's four more zeroes on this cheque than I expected to get. I'm overjoyed and feel wonderful just now. You never know if it's real or not because you never expect it to happen to you, but it has and now I know it's not made up!
"My daughter Sarah is getting married in November next year and I'm charge of getting the dress, so she can have her choice of wedding dresses now!"
Margaret is also planning to put some of the windfall towards a winter city break. She said, "I'd love to take a wee trip to Paris around Christmas time with my husband Dugald. Between us both we have four children and eight grandchildren so there's no shortage of people to help spend the money, but I'm going to be sure not to just let it dwindle away."
As the only person playing with KA1 5RT, Margaret is the only Street Prize winner today, but had anyone else been playing, they too would have won £30,000.
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt was in Symington to deliver Margaret's cheque. She said, "It was a pleasure to meet Margaret and make her day by presenting her with a lovely big prize. I'm delighted her daughter is now going to be able to get the dress of her dreams for her wedding, and I hope she and her family have a great time celebrating her good fortune."
Good Causes Across Britain
With 32% of the ticket price going to deserving projects, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £462 Million for thousands of charities and good causes across Great Britain as well as internationally.
Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by CLIC Sargent, a wonderful charity which supports children and young people with cancer. To date, players have provided more than £7 Million to help CLIC Sargent deliver vital emotional, practical, financial and clinical support during and after treatment.
Local charities win, too. MP Health CIC was awarded £1,980 in 2017 for its Fit for Life project, running free exercise and nutrition workshops for disadvantaged young people in the area.
