Street Prize
Ongar Strikes It Rich
One lucky Ongar resident is celebrating after Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier arrived at her door with a cheque for £30,000.
Postcode CM5 0EY was drawn as the winner of today's Street Prize, landing Kate Gemmill from Moreton Road the whopping £30,000 prize money.
Kate is absolutely thrilled with her win. She said, "I'm trying not to let it go to my head because I'm definitely going to do something sensible with the money. I'm going to use it to put a deposit down for a house, which is really exciting – I don't have any savings, so it wouldn't be possible without this win. I'll need to get house hunting!"
Kate said it was an unlucky accident a couple of years ago which set her on her winning path. "I broke my ankle so was watching a lot more TV than usual and saw the adverts. I thought I may as well give it a shot as it is so easy, but it's quite a shock to win so much."
Jeff said, "I'm delighted for Kate - it was great to meet her and her family and friends. It's fantastic that the win is going to allow her to buy her first house."
A minimum of 30% of ticket price goes directly to charities. Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised more than £197 Million to date for more than 2,800 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
A local charity that has received support from People's Postcode Lottery players is Alfie James Productions, which was awarded £2,000 last year to run a theatre group for elderly people, exploring storytelling techniques and reminiscence theatre.
It was a big weekend of winners - the May Postcode Millions landed in Billingham and on Saturday, a West Bromwich player also scooped £30,000.
