Street Prize
Astonished In Ardross
Three residents in Ardross are celebrating a big win this weekend. The neighbours picked up £120,000 between them after their postcode, IV17 0XW, was drawn as a winner of today's Street Prize. Two of the players scooped £30,000 each, with the other doubling their prize to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
Over The Moon
One of our £30,000 winners was Lucy, who had the surprise of her life when our Postcode Lottery team knocked on her door. She said, "I'm just delighted. I can't believe it's actually happened! I'm exhausted now that after all that adrenaline."
Lucy, a primary school teacher, was in the staff room when she found out about her win. She said, "I was in a staff meeting when I got the news that I'd been getting a visit. Everyone was with me at the time and they were all cheering away."
Lucy's partner Neil works offshore so couldn't be there to see her receive her cheque, but he was over the moon when he found out the good news. Lucy said, "I called Neil to tell him how much we'd won but he didn't believe me. I had to tell him a few times it was real! With him working away it will be nice to take a nice holiday together but I've no idea where yet. We'll need to start thinking!
"We've just put an offer in on a new house which would be a massive renovation project, so if we get it the money will go towards that. I've always had dreams of an outdoor hot tub so I can finally make that happen."
Chuffed To Bits
Lucy's neighbour Kenneth, who owns pubs in the surrounding area, was another lucky winner. Kenneth was shocked when he found out how much he'd won, but he already has an idea of what he and his wife Jenni will do with the cash. He said, "I'm delighted, I'm chuffed to bits! My brother-in-law is getting married in August in Wisconsin, so we're going to use the money to go."
Kenneth is a keen supporter of local good causes and pledges to use some of his winnings to help his local community. He said, "I was involved in an incident last summer where a man collapsed and there wasn't a defibrillator available. After that, I wanted to try and help raise money to get some." Kenneth set up a Just Giving page and raised almost £2,000 to fund community defibrillators. After his win he can add even more to the total.
Our other winner wasn't available to collect their cheque in person so their prize money will be paid directly into their bank account.
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt was in Ardross to deliver our golden envelopes. She said, "It was a pleasure as always to meet our winners in Ardross. From hot tubs to life-saving defibrillators, there's certainly a lot being done with the money! Congratulations to the winners we were unable to meet too. I'm sure they will also have big plans for spending it!"
Thousands Of Deserving Projects
Lucky winners aren't the only ones who benefit from People's Postcode Lottery. With 32% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, our amazing players have raised over £500 Million for more than 7,500 deserving causes to date.
Today's prize is part of a draw promoted by Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), one of the UK's leading sight-loss charities. Players have supported RNIB with more than £2.2 Million in funding, helping the organisation create a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss.
