Postcode Millions
Washington Wins Big
A total of 533 people in the Tyne and Wear town of Washington have received the good news that they have each scooped a share of £3 Million after their postcode sector, NE37 2, was announced as the winner of March's Postcode Millions prize.
With eight neighbours playing with the full winning postcode of NE37 2LL, seven of them scooped a cheque for £166,666 each. But the good news kept on coming for the eighth Sunningdale Drive player, who doubled their prize to an incredible £333,332 thanks to playing with two tickets.
525 more Washington winners have also netted cheques. Players with a single ticket in the winning sector pick up £2,608 and those with two tickets collect £5,216. Players with three tickets win £7,824. One player with four tickets pockets £10,432.
Susan, a former Post Office worker, was among those playing with the full winning postcode and couldn't believe it when she found out she'd won. She said, "I was in denial when I got the phone call, I thought someone was having a joke and then I watched it get announced on Facebook and saw it was real. Eeeee, it's unbelievable!"
The £166,666 win is good news for Susan. She said, "I've got lots of ideas about what I could spend it on but with everywhere being closed at the moment it's giving me a bit of time to think long and hard about what I'll use it for, which is probably a good thing.
"I've got a son and a daughter and two grandchildren so they'll be winning out of this, definitely. Myself and my husband Colin were meant to be going to Mallorca in a few weeks' time but that's been cancelled - but now we'll be able to book a trip away for the whole family when it's safe to do so."
Susan, who has lived at the winning postcode for 27 years, is thrilled to have won alongside her neighbours and so many others in the community. She added, "It's a great cul-de-sac and everyone is so friendly. I've not seen any of my neighbours to congratulate them but I just want to say a big well done to everyone - it's fantastic news!"
Announcing the March Postcode Millions prize during a special Facebook broadcast was People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Judie McCourt.
Judie said, "Congratulations to all those who play with NE37 2 - what a great result for Washington! While I won't be able to deliver cheques and meet our Washington players in person this time around, myself and the other Postcode Lottery Ambassadors will still be celebrating the win on social media.
"I'd love to see our winners get involved by sharing selfies with their cheques and hopefully hearing about how they plan to spend the money!"
Thousands Of Supported Projects
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised over £500 Million for more than 7,500 projects and groups across the world.
March's Postcode Millions is part of a draw promoted by Postcode Support Trust. Established in 2015, this Trust provides funding to charities and good causes across Britain that are supporting older people to participate fully in their community, helping them live happy and more fulfilled lives.
Local charities close to our Washington winners have also benefited from funding raised by players. Last year Eagles Community Foundation was awarded £20,000 to purchase additional sports wheelchairs, giving more people across the area the chance to get involved in playing wheelchair basketball.
