Street Prize
Cha-Ching For Chineham
Six people in Chineham were visited by Lady Luck after their postcode, RG24 8RD, was announced as Saturday's Street Prize winner.
The win saw five of the St. Leonard's Avenue neighbours scoop £30,000 each, while the sixth winner picked up a cheque for an incredible £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
Too Good to be True
Retired Builder and Lecturer in carpentry and joinery David was overjoyed with his cheque. He said, "I initially thought it was a wind up when I was told you'd be coming to visit me and thought it was too good to be true."
David, who has two children and two grandchildren, plans to put the windfall to good use by helping his family. He commented, "I feel great now because this money is going to let me do something for my son and help him grow his gym and personal training business. I've been with my wife Lesly for 56 years, so I'll be sure to treat her to something special too. I'm also going to do a few home improvements and might get a log burner and a new en suite too."
The lucky double ticket holder was Elaine, who was stunned to discover how much she'd won. Elaine said, "I'm shaking – this is amazing! I was getting ready to travel up to Leicester and then I got a phone call to say I was getting a visit – thank goodness I stayed in! My mum initially signed up to play and when I was reading about it I discovered how many good causes are supported, as well as how many chances there are to win, so that's why I joined."
Elaine loved that she was able to share the experience of winning with her neighbours and said, "This is a lovely street and we get together and help each other, so it's brilliant to know we've won as a community."
Get the Passports Out
Jason was another winner and he was joined by his wife Beth when the People's Postcode Lottery team came knocking on his door. He commented, "I'm just stunned – I see the adverts on TV but never quite thought this would happen to me!
"Beth and I have three small children and we've never had the opportunity to go on a holiday overseas before. I think the first thing we'll be doing is getting all our passports sorted out and going on an extra special family holiday, perhaps to somewhere like Disneyland! We might splash out on a few treats for the kids too and share some with our family, so we're spreading the luck a little."
Handing the cheques to the lucky winners was People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Jeff Brazier, who said, "It's been a pleasure to deliver some good news to Chineham today and it's always nice to see neighbours win together – it's what People's Postcode Lottery is all about! I hope everyone has a ball spending their windfall."
With 32% of the ticket price going to charities and good causes, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £393 Million for deserving causes. This prize was part of a draw promoted by Dogs Trust.
Lots of charities close to the winners have also benefited from funding raised by players including Basingstoke Neighbourcare. The group was awarded £10,000 last year to help isolated people with mobility issues get out and about within the community by providing a free transport service.
