Street Prize
Gold For Glasgow
An incredible £180,000 has been won between five people on a street in Glasgow today. The residents landed the windfall when their postcode, G74 3QE, was announced as a winner of Tuesday's #30KADAY Street Prize. Four of the neighbours netted £30,000 each, while the fifth doubled their prize to £60,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.
Icing On The Cake
One of today's winners, Graham, was overjoyed when the postman dropped a golden envelope through his door. He said, "I was in the house with my son Lloyd, who is disabled and non-verbal, and I was jumping about the living room and Lloyd was just looking at me like I was completely mad. There's a sense of it being unreal."
The win couldn't have come at a better time for Graham, an autism care worker. He said, "I was feeling quite poorly in November so I went to the hospital for a check-up and discovered I needed a heart bypass. I had my surgery the week before the hospital closed for non-essential surgeries. If I hadn't got it then I would still be ill and virtually housebound, so I feel I've really been quite lucky and this is just the icing on the cake.
"I've been off work for about six months so it's nice to have this money in the bank because we were looking at some fairly tough times ahead as a family.
"This is a life-changing amount for me and will make a tremendous difference to me and my family."
Once it's safe to do so, Graham would like to take his wife Ellen and the rest of the family on holiday. He said, "It's something we'd not have been in a position to do before, but now we can get a villa, maybe somewhere in the Canary Islands, and just chill out."
Graham was delighted to have won alongside so many of his neighbours. He said, "I've had good fortune and I'm happy that other people have had it too. Hopefully they'll all have as much enjoyment out of the money as we will."
Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson spoke to Graham over a video call. He said, "It was pleasure to meet Graham virtually and hear about the plans he has for his win. I hope he and his family can enjoy their well-deserved break when they manage to jet off.
"Congratulations to our four other Glasgow winners too - I hope they're just as pleased as Graham is with their prize!"
