Good News For Glossop

It's good news for one Glossop player who has won a £30,000 cash prize thanks to playing People's Postcode Lottery.

Lucky John scooped the big bucks when his postcode, SK13 6JB, was announced as Sunday's Street Prize winner.

John, who works as a Surveyor for a flooring contractor, was with his wife Gillian when he received the good news. He said, "This is so exciting and definitely calls for a few celebratory drinks in our local tonight.

"I'm in a bit of a dilemma about how I'll spend it but it's my 50th birthday this year and I've always wanted to visit Japan so I think I'll treat myself to a special birthday trip there. I've got two brothers who live in Australia that I haven't seen for over three years, so it would also be a good sort of halfway point for us to meet up at too."

The globetrotting plans don't stop there! John added, "Myself and Gillian have a Volkswagen campervan and would love to do a tour across Europe, starting in France with a visit to Gillian's brother who currently lives there. It's going to be a great 2019."

People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson was in Glossop to present John with his cheque and said, "What a brilliant start to the new year for John and Gillian – it sounds like he's going to be able to have a really special year in 2019 now. With Christmas over, it's an amazing feeling to still be spreading lots of joy in our red jackets to lucky winners like John."

People's Postcode Lottery recently reached the landmark of having supported over 5,500 grassroots good causes around Great Britain, all thanks to our wonderful players. 32% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. In 2018, over 1,500 causes were funded with grants totalling over £7.5 Million. This prize was part of a draw promoted by WWF-UK. Nomad Adventure Therapy is one good cause near to today's winner which players have helped to support. In 2017, the group received £2,000 to run an adventure fitness activity programme for local veterans.
