Big Win For Bradford
2019 is already off to a winning start for five lucky neighbours in Bradford. The five have been celebrating after their postcode, BD6 3XA, was announced as Saturday's Street Prize winner.
Thanks to the win, four of the Bittern Court residents scooped £30,000 each, while the fifth winner doubled their cash prize to £60,000 due to playing with two tickets.
Joanne, an Accounts Manager at a construction company and mother, was taken aback when she saw the figure written on her cheque . She said: "I'm completely overwhelmed. I've never won anything before so to win something on this scale is simply unbelievable.
"I've not been on holiday for a long while so I'm going to use the money to go to Amsterdam, Budapest and to visit the Christmas markets in Prague at the end of the year – they're places that I've always wanted to visit but have never really been able to go to before. I think I'll also treat my partner Tony, our border collie and our springer spaniel to a trip down to Cornwall as well. It's going to be so nice to be able to book everything and not have to worry about paying it up."
Joanne's next door neighbour Tony was another lucky player picking up a prize. Tony, who has been retired from his job at a printing manufacturer for 20 years, was with his wife Dot and their two daughters when the People's Postcode Lottery team knocked on his door and presented him with his cheque.
Tony said, "When I originally got a phone call from the team asking to visit I thought it was a hoax, so this is a massive shock. This couldn't have come at a better time as Dot and myself are looking to move into a bungalow so this is a very welcome boost for our house hunting budget.
"It's lovely to win with Joanne as we've been next door neighbours and known each other for 11 years now – we're all definitely starting 2019 on the right footing!"
Joanne added, "It's just made the whole experience all the better to share it with Tony and Dot. We're always looking out for one another and I really couldn't ask for better neighbours."
Also being delivered a golden envelope was Kirsty, who was equally as delighted as her neighbours to be going into the new year £30,000 richer.
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Matt Johnson was in Bradford to deliver cheques to the lucky players. He said, "Santa might have hung up his suit for another year but just because it's January it doesn't mean we stop spreading joy in our very own red jackets here at People's Postcode Lottery! I'm delighted for everyone in Bradford who has received a lovely big cheque today – what a brilliant way to start a new year."
32% of the People's Postcode Lottery ticket price goes to charities. So far, our amazing players have raised a remarkable £382 Million for good causes across Britain and around the globe. This prize was part of a draw promoted by WWF-UK. Many charities close to our winners have received support from players, including Artworks Creative Communities, which was awarded £15,481 last year to establish a creative recovery programme for stroke survivors.
