Readies For Reading

It's a spectacular Sunday for ten lucky Reading residents, as they've each scooped a £30,000 cheque thanks to playing People's Postcode Lottery. The windfall came for the neighbours after their postcode, RG2 7PX, was announced as a winner of today's Street Prize.

Flipping Fabulous

First up to receive one of our golden envelopes was Sarah, who works as a pizza chef. She was bursting with joy when Street Prize Presenter and fellow Reading resident Danyl Johnson revealed her cheque. She summed up her win as, "Absolutely flipping fabulous."

When we asked her what she might spend her prize money on, she spoke about her plans to go ahead with a Caribbean cruise. The mum-of-two first travelled abroad in 2019 and hoped to do the same next year. She'd been swithering whether to book the cruise because of the price and had left it sitting in her online shopping basket until she found out she'd won one of our Street Prizes.

Sarah also fancied snapping up some fun footwear. She said, "I'm going to go to the Croc outlet and buy 20 pairs of Crocs in different colours!"

A Beautiful Win

Sarah's neighbour and friend of 30 years, Kellie, also netted a £30,000 cheque. The pair were neighbours at their previous addresses before moving to their current homes on Northumberland Avenue.

Sarah was thrilled about her friend's win. She said, "It's beautiful. It couldn't have happened to a nicer person." Kellie returned the sentiment and added, "I'll second that!"

Helping Hand

Danyl Johnson and our Street Prize team surprised another Sarah with a £30,000 cash prize. She said that her win must have been "my mum helping us out."

The local learning assistant's mum died only a couple of weeks ago. Her husband Kevin also lost his father in November 2020.

The mum-of-four wanted to use her windfall to renovate her kitchen and hoped to join her sister on a holiday to Jamaica in May next year.

The couple plan to celebrate with their family over a takeaway.

Neighbour Jasbinder also scooped a £30,000 Street Prize. He was joined by his wife Meena when he found out how much he'd won and was delighted with his good fortune.

Danyl Johnson was in Reading to hand out our golden envelopes. He said, "It's always an amazing feeling to present good news to our winners, but I'm especially thrilled to be in my hometown handing out cheques today!

"A massive congratulations to our Reading winners and I hope they enjoy spending the cash on themselves and their families."

Charities Everywhere

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Care Trust, which provides regular grant funding to organisations that work to improve the health and lives of communities. Supported charities include Maggie's, Breast Cancer Now and Carers Trust.
