Street Prize
Riches For Ravenfield
Two very happy Ravenfield residents have won £30,000 each thanks to their postcode.
Chris and Louise picked up their prizes after their postcode, S65 4LW, was drawn as the winner of this week's Sunday Street Prize.
The win came at a particularly good time for Chris, as his wife has recently been admitted to hospital. He said, "What I really want is Jill to get home soon, but this money will just make everything easier. We had to cancel a month-long holiday in Spain so we'll be able to get that back when she's better. It also means we'll be able to buy a vehicle which is suitable for her wheelchair.
"I can't wait to surprise her with the cheque. Hopefully it's something to help her recover and feel better."
Mum-of-two Louise said, "It's not sunk in yet. This means the world – it can do so much for us. My two boys really want a PlayStation 4 – that’s their order!
"It's a great way to give to charity because I can see where it's going – and now I've won too."
Street Prize Presenter Jeff Brazier handed over the cheques. He said, "I'm so delighted for our winners Chris and Louise. I think the win has come at a great time for both of them, and I hope they enjoy spending it."
With a minimum of 32% of the ticket price going to charity, players of People's Postcode Lottery have now raised £282 Million for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
DIAL Barnsley is one of the nearby charities that players have supported. The group was awarded £9,500 last year to train local disabled people to become volunteer anti-poverty peer coaches.
