Street Prize
Congratulations Claverham
Eight lucky Claverham neighbours celebrated their Sunday in style when they discovered their postcode had landed them £30,000 prizes. The Whitehouse Road winners scooped the windfall when their postcode, BS49 4LJ, was announced as a winner of today's #30KADAY Street Prize.
Whale Watching
One of the £30,000 winners was Ann, a retired local newspaper reporter, who has always wanted to visit the Baja Peninsula in Mexico to go whale watching. She said, "I'm going to start planning my trip straight away! I'm 80 next year so it will be a special treat just for me. I'd love to spot a grey whale - they often come right up to the boat!"
As well planning the trip of a lifetime, Ann has two daughters and four granddaughters she plans to treat with the cash. She said, "One of my granddaughters is doing a masters in Bristol so this will be a great help. I've not even spoken to them all yet, but I'll definitely give them a little something."
Winning Means So Much
Her neighbour Brigitte is going to share her windfall with her stepdad, Max. She said, "This win means so much to us both. I'm recovering from an illness at the moment so I'm not working. The money will give me some relief and I might even get myself a new car. Best of all, Max can get himself a new hearing aid so he has one for each ear.
"I'll definitely need to get the cheque framed so I can remember this day. I've been saving a bottle of bubbly for a year and a half as I was waiting for a special occasion - I will definitely be opening it tonight!"
Absolutely Flabbergasted
Another lucky player scooping a £30,000 cheque was Brian. He said, "I'm absolutely flabbergasted! I have no idea what I'm going to spend it on, but I don't think I'll have much of a problem finding something.
"I'll celebrate with a meal out tonight with my wife, Ann. We'll even get some wine - we're pulling out all of the stops tonight!"
As the remaining winners couldn't be there to collect their prizes in person, their cheques will be paid directly into their bank accounts.
Street Prize Presenter Danyl Johnson was in Claverham to deliver the cheques. He said, "What a lovely bunch of winners we've had today in Claverham. It was a pleasure to meet them all and present them with their cheques. It sounds like the win means a lot to them all, so I'm sure they'll enjoy spending the cash!"
