Great British Spring Clean
From 25th March to 10th April 2022, hundreds of thousands of #LitterHeroes head out into the great outdoors, equipped with bin-bags, gloves, and their trusty litter-pickers to, quite literally, Keep Britain Tidy.
Keep Britain Tidy is a charity with three main aims: to tackle litter, to end waste, and to improve the public spaces that we all share. These aims come to life this month during the Great British Spring Clean, the country's biggest mass-participation environmental campaign.
Community Benefits
Last year during the Great British Spring Clean, Keep Britain Tidy's volunteer #LitterHeroes travelled over a million miles of the great outdoors, picking litter as they went. And it's not just the environment that benefits from this campaign.
Of those taking part last year:
• 91% agreed that they felt more pride in their local area, and
• 86% agreed that taking part helped improve their mood.
This year, participants have already pledged to pick an incredible 200,000 bags of litter before the campaign has even started!
During the campaign, the #LitterHeroes Ambassadors, a group of dedicated environmentalists, will go above and beyond to engage their local communities in the campaign. Year round, they work to turn the tide on litter where they live, by leading groups, visiting schools, and cleaning up our rivers, our beaches, our forests, and our streets.
Eco actions like the Great British Spring Clean make a real difference. They protect wildlife and marine life from harmful rubbish, prevent plastic from making its way into our rivers and seas, and bring communities together to improve the environment on our doorstep.
Player's Support
The Great British Spring Clean and the #LitterHeroes Ambassador Programme is made possible by players of People's Postcode Lottery. Players have raised £2,625,000 to date, which goes towards eliminating litter and ending waste now and for future generations.
What else does Keep Britain Tidy do? Well, you're most likely familiar with the charity's iconic logo. Tidyman has been reminding us to put our rubbish in the bin where it belongs, for over 50 years. During that time the charity has devised countless eye-catching, memorable campaigns to change public behaviour around litter and waste, and worked with successive governments to fight for legislation to create a cleaner, greener Britain.
Now, through its Eco-Schools programme and campaigns like the Great Big School Clean, Keep Britain Tidy is engaging children and young people to tackle eco-anxiety, endemic among their generation. Keep Britian Tidy has been educating them on the environment and inspiring them to take action to improve it.
