Street Prize

Joy In Hawick

17 March 2024 - TD9 7BJ - Hawick - £30,000

Two close pals and neighbours are celebrating after winning today's £30,000 Street Prize.

Susan and Brenda whooped with joy after finding out they'd each landed a £30,000 cheque.

The pair - who live in the same block of flats in Hawick, Roxburghshire - laughed as they told us how they'd celebrate with lager and Asti Spumante tipples and a Chinese takeaway while planning their spending.

Susan said, "It's great to experience this with Brenda. I couldn't have won it with a better person."

Grandmother Brenda added, "We've been friends and neighbours for years. This is just brilliant."

The ladies' postcode - TD9 7BJ - was announced as the winner of our Sunday Street Prize. Each ticket in Silverbuthall Road was worth £30,000, with a total of £210,000 being shared between seven players.

What The Hol!

Now Susan plans to upgrade her six-berth caravan at Coldingham, Berwickshire, where Brenda often comes to visit. The site is close to the beach where her parents' ashes are scattered.

The knitwear factory worker - who will have her landmark 60th birthday in May - said, "When I first heard, I was jigging around Brenda's living room. She said she wished she had a video. This is so exciting and unexpected.

"I've got a caravan on the east coast which I might upgrade to a newer one.

"My dad was the village bobby in Coldingham and I was brought up there for part of the time. My mum and dad's ashes are scattered there on the beach. The ocean's in my soul."

She added, "A wee can of Tennent's is my favourite tipple, so I might have that tonight to celebrate."

Ready Beddy Go

Mum-of-three Brenda said her first purchases will be a £45 winter coat for her rescue Greyhound Nikita and a new mattress for herself.

She said, "I'll get the dog a special coat. And I've been thinking about a new mattress.

"But I'd mostly like to help my family. At my age, I've got what I need. I'd definitely like to take them out for a meal."

Brenda said she still had a bottle of Asti in the fridge to finish but added, "I'll be celebrating with a good night's sleep. I haven't slept since Friday when I got the call to say I'd won."

On The House

Along the street, grandad Neil told us how he'd only signed up to play a short time ago after seeing our advert.

The retired hosiery mechanic said, "I saw it on the TV and thought I would join up. Now I've got £30,000 just three months later. I feel brilliant, it's really good. I thought it would only be £1,000."

The dad-of-one said he and his wife Elaine already have holidays booked for Benalmádena in Spain and Portugal's Algarve.

He added, "I don't know what I'll do with the money. I'll probably put a new roof on the house. And I might get a new car - trade the old one in."

Family Matters

Retired Morrisons supermarket worker Linda said she and hubby Mick will help out their two daughters as well as carry out some home renovations.

Linda said, "I just felt that anything we got would be a bonus. We're not greedy people. I'm buzzing. This doesn't happen to people like us.

"We'll put it in the bank account at the moment while we think about it. We've been redecorating and will be roughcasting the outside of the house.

"We'll definitely be helping the family out and going out for tea. And we'll try and get a holiday out of it. I don't like it too hot, so that's tricky."

She added, "I've been playing for three years and the charity element was a big factor in signing up. The Postcode Lottery covers such a lot of different charities."

Millions For Good Causes

Today's prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Global Trust (opens in a new tab). Supported by our players, this trust delivers grant funding to organisations that are working to save lives and improve health care systems. Benefiting charities include Amref Health Africa UK, APOPO and Médecins Sans Frontières.

With People's Postcode Lottery, 33% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. To date, players have raised more than £1.2 Billion for thousands of deserving projects across Great Britain, as well as internationally.
