Win For Wilsden
A Wilsden grandad has spoken of his joy at being able to plan a family reunion - overdue by more than 50 years - after winning big, thanks to his postcode.
77-year-old Glyn is one of seven neighbours celebrating after BD15 0LN was announced as a winner today. The neighbours won £30,000 each as part of our #30KADAY Street Prize extravaganza in June's draws.
Reuniting Families
Retired forklift driver Glyn was joined by Kath, his wife of 55 years, when he found out he'd won. The pair shared a kiss as the cheque was revealed.
Glyn plans to use the money for a special trip. He said, "I want to go and see my brother's family in the West Indies.
"My brother and his wife have passed away but we'd like to go and see where they were in the West Indies. They had six children and we've not seen them for more than 50 years.
"We couldn't have gone without this but thanks to Postcode Lottery we can do it now. I'm just over the moon. I could cry to be honest with you."
Kath, who alongside Glyn has three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, added, "I just feel like going 'woop woop' all the time! We might have a cup of tea and a ginger biscuit to celebrate tonight."
Party Planning
81-year-old Lillian, who has lived at the postcode for 59 years, also won £30,000.
Retired Lillian used to run the local library and said she is known as the 'Library Lady'. Lillian said, "I feel as if I'm on air at the moment. I don't know when I'll come back down to earth.
"I never win anything, so it's a very big surprise!"
Asked how she'd spend the windfall, grandmother-of-five Lillian said, "I'm thinking about the grandchildren, I'll see them alright.
“I think I'll just enjoy it and have a bit of a party. It'll be nice to relax – we've all had a bit of a grim time the last two years with COVID."
A Journey Home
Also winning was 65-year-old Peter who is a retired physics and maths teacher. Peter was joined by Catherine - his wife of 32 years - when he received his cheque.
He said, "I think we'll celebrate with a curry from Wilsden Balti – the local curry house!"
The pair also plan to travel to the USA with the cash and visit Catherine's hometown in Pennsylvania.
People's Postcode Lottery Presenter Danyl Johnson said, "I've had a lot of fun in Wilsden knocking on doors, ringing bells and surprising our winners with big cheques. It was a pleasure to meet Lillian, Glyn and Peter and hear their big plans for their winnings!"
