Street Prize
Congratulations Clayton-le-Woods
Five people in Clayton-le-Woods received a very special delivery when Judie McCourt knocked on their doors and presented them with golden envelopes. Their postcode, PR6 7RE, was announced as today's Street Prize winner. Each of the neighbours received a cheque for an incredible £30,000!
Lucky Move
Winner Jan was absolutely delighted with her £30,000 prize. Originally from the area, she'd moved away when she was younger and only moved back recently. Her first plans for her winnings were to help her son get on the housing ladder. She said, "I'm going to help my son to buy his first house. We only moved to this postcode six months ago from Hertfordshire.
"My son is still down there and I'm obviously keen for him to move up here and be closer. He's looking to move just ten minutes away from here. He's done really well to save up for a deposit for a house so if we can help out in any way then we'll do that."
Jan admitted that after learning of her prize she immediately shared the news with her son. She exclaimed, "I sent him a selfie with the cheque!"
She almost missed out on her windfall as she and her husband had originally planned to move elsewhere. She said, "We weren't even supposed to move into this house! We were supposed to buy a house down the road, but we had to pull out of that. We found this house, where we are living now, really last minute but it's just been one amazing thing after another living here.
"The street is so lovely, the neighbours are so lovely, and to top it off, six months later we've won the Postcode Lottery!"
Jan, who works in event management and as a life coach, said that her winnings could also help her as she's in the process of setting up her own business.
When asked how she would celebrate, Jan joked, "I'm going out for breakfast with my mum and my sister in the morning and they've said I'll be paying for that!"
Sunshine Break
Michelle was another neighbour to receive a knock on the door from Judie and found how much she'd won alongside her partner Mark.
The couple were left stunned with their £30,000 cheque, and Michelle hoped to use some of the money for a trip away. She said, "We want to go on holiday because we've not been on holiday since 2019. Somewhere like Italy, Greece or Spain. Have some sunshine! Maybe a little later on in the year." Michelle added that some of their winnings would go towards the couple's pension and that they would treat their son as well.
When asked if they had plans to treat themselves, Mark said he would look a getting a new set of golf clubs, while Michelle laughed and added, "I might have a spa treatment!"
Street Prize Presenter Judie McCourt was in Clayton-le-Woods to meet today's winners and share her congratulations. She said, "I'm so pleased for our winners in Clayton-le-Woods, what a great way to start the year for them! It sounds like they already have some plans for their winnings so I hope they enjoy spending the cash and get themselves a few treats to celebrate!"
