Wilder Blean
The Wilder Blean project will return missing species to the environment, restoring natural processes and wildlife diversity
Kent Wildlife Trust and the Wildwood Trust have been awarded £1,125,000 by Postcode Dream Trust for their project Wilder Blean.
This award for UK woodland wilding project Wilder Blean aims to return missing species to the environment restoring natural processes and wildlife diversity.
The project will introduce European bison into a UK woodland for the first time in modern history, creating natural environmental system changes that will restore the ecological complexity of the woodland and allow native wildlife to thrive. The charities leading the project hope to revolutionise the UK's approach to wildlife protection and transform more countryside into wild places.
Across the UK, 56% of species are in decline, 165 are critically endangered and some have all but disappeared. The project leaders believe that conservation management alone is not enough, and that a systemic change is needed for nature-led recovery.
