Trussell works to ensure no one needs a food bank to survive, while providing emergency food and practical support for people left without enough money to live on.

Why do we exist?

Hunger in the UK isn't a food problem, it's an income problem. 1 in 7 people across the UK are going without or cutting back on food due to a lack of money (Trussell, 2023).

Some people have health conditions or relatives to care for and aren't getting the help that's needed from the social security system. Some people are in-between jobs or in work that's insecure, inaccessible or doesn't pay enough to live on, and the lack of affordable childcare, housing and transport are further barriers holding people back from opportunities to increase their income and afford the essentials.

All this can and must change.

How is Trussell making a difference?

Together, with support from players of People's Postcode Lottery, they are working to change things by:

• Making sure food banks keep their doors open for people who need them, right now.

• Making sure local people on the lowest incomes can get money advice and support so they're less likely to need a food bank in the future.

• Bringing together experiences, evidence and solutions from food banks - and from people who've needed them - to build a compelling case for change.
