Story Starters
Boosting language and communicative development in early years is crucial to improving children's life chances.
Story Starters' dream is that every child, regardless of their background, starts primary school able to read well. Talking, exploring, and playing with books teaches children the sounds of language and the wonderful world of stories - enhancing imagination, supporting aspirations, and making it easier to learn to read.
Story Starters addresses the needs of children who are not getting the help and support they need at home to develop their language and reading skills. The project, a joint collaboration between Beanstalk, Imagination Library and LuCiD, will recruit and train 600 Story Starters volunteers over a two year period to give one-to-one support to 1,800 disadvantaged children aged between three and five, creating an innovative approach to learning.
