MAC - Midlands Arts Centre
Founded in 1962, MAC (Midlands Arts Centre) is one of the most important and busiest arts centres in the UK. It exists to make participation in innovative, creative arts activities an important part of people's lives. MAC is the top visitor attraction in the West Midlands and the fifteenth in the UK.
This fantastic arts complex provides a unique, much-loved and critically acclaimed home for a wealth of contemporary, creative and accessible arts events, courses and activities. MAC has a national and international reputation for its theatre performances, dance, music, comedy, plays for children, literature and poetry events, creative and educational courses, family shows, films, and free exhibitions.
The support from players of People's Postcode Lottery will enable MAC to support a range of projects including:
- A season of exhibitions, discussions, and performances around 'Beyond Windrush' (an exploration of the impact of migration to the UK),
- work with SENSE UK as part of a sensory festival (co-curated by over 60 people with communications needs),
- work with families, children and older people, including free taster workshops in everything from Tai Chi to pottery, and
- support for emerging artists based in the West Midlands.
MAC also uses some of the support from players to match-fund donations, leveraging an additional £25,000 each year from visitors which goes to support other outreach work in local communities.
